Outbuildings: Multi-function spaces and adapting to the ‘new normal’

Invest in a New Building for a Home Gym You Can Be Proud Of!

For most people, living through recent times has turned normal routines upside down and on their heads. Things are different, especially in relation to the home environment. What people are looking for in their home these days is more than somewhere to sleep. It is all-encompassing with many more functions than before, so how can it measure up without more space?

Maximise the Great Outdoors

So often, outdoor space is not well used. Even with larger garden areas, homeowners still focus on using just a small amount of it. Well now is the time to harness some of that space to construct an external building. This will give a flexible or dedicated space to meet new needs that home space alone cannot. For many a home office is something that might be of interest. However, regular gym goers have had interruptions in their routine again and again recently. Most have had to embrace completing their exercise at home. Yet stacking a shared use living area with exercise balls, mats and weights is not necessarily what is wanted. Why not consider creating a new garden structure that can make the perfect home gym?

What About the Rules and Regulations?

With outbuildings, there are a few rules. Some of these relate to using a garden building for sleeping, but these are not relevant with a home gym. One of the considerations is your boundary line. If your building will be under 15m2 then installation can be near a boundary. For buildings of 15m2 to 30m2, it must be a metre from any boundary line. It must also be single storey with a height under 2.5m, or 3m if more than 2m from your property and not a dual pitched roof. No more than half of the outside space of a house can be additional buildings, so do consider this. In specialist areas like National Parks or in the grounds of listed buildings, there will be planning permission to apply for. These regulations give plenty of scope for the average homeowner to maximise space.

A Specific Home Gym Space

Having a space specifically for a home gym ensures it is there all day every day to suit the needs of any gym-goer. No need to pound the streets in the rain, queue for equipment or worry about potential closures. Choose a shape and size that suits the needs of the outside space. One size will not fit all scenarios, so choose exactly what you require. This is an affordable way to increase home space without moving house. Imagine the time and money that can be saved by exercising in a home gym rather than travelling.
